Official Bath Launch of the Martin Roberts Foundation
Martin Roberts and the trustees of the Martin Roberts Foundation were very proud to officially launch the charity at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath on Thursday 15th March 2018.
Attended by local businesses and personalities, the launch evening was an opportunity to meet other supporters and campaigners for the charity, which to date has concentrated its activities on the Bath & North East Somerset area, but which now aims to gain national exposure.
Martin delivered an inspiring and heart warming speech about how the Martin Roberts Foundation charitable organisation was born as a vehicle for fundraising activities to support the ‘Sadsville Campaign’. This initative began in 2016 working with local organisations to fund the production and distribution of the book, Sadsville to every Year 4 child in the local education authority area. Sadsville was written by Martin as part of his series of children’s books, called The Villes to raise awareness of Childline and the work of the NSPCC in a age appropriate way to this age group. The charity wants it to be given out FREE to every child in this target age range.
Not only is the story adored by children, it carries an important message that if you are sad in any way, there is help out there. Martin spoke of the incredible feedback he has recieved from Head Teachers in the area, expressing the sheer delight of children when they recieved their free copy of Sadsville.
But it doesn’t stop there, and with the full support of the NSPCC and Childline, the charity is now set to go National, seeking corporate sponsorship for the production of approximately 1.6 million books in order to repeat the success of the local Sadsville campaign right across the country.
The Mayor of Bath, Ian Gilchrist also spoke of his pride in having Bath as the springboard for this worthwhile campaign and Martin spoke of his joy at having the campaign personally endorsed by Dame Esther Rantzen DBE, Founder of Childline.
“Thank you for creating this highly entertaining and original way of raising children’s awareness of how they can reach out for help through support services such as Childline. I wish the Sadsville book project every success.”
As well as Dame Esther Rantzen DBE, other well-known celebrities have read extracts from the book and have offered their support to the campaign including: David Hasselhoff, Jeremy Vine, Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway. A celebrity video edition of the book is planned as part of the project.
